Have you ever wondered what happens to food after you eat it?
That's what the digestive system is for!
After the food goes into your mouth, it slides down this long tube called the esophagus Es-OFF-oh-gus .
It lands in the stomach STO-mack , where it's broken down into little pieces.
Once it's in pieces, it moves to the small intestine in-TEST-in , where it's separated into two groups: nutrients and waste.
Nutrients NOO-tree-ents are the good, healthy stuff, and they are sent to the liver through the bloodstream.
Waste is the stuff your body doesn't need, and it's sent to the long intestine, where it's dried out to become more solid.
The solid waste then goes out through your rectum, where it comes out as feces FEE-seez , better known as poop.
And that's the whole digestive system!
